“See the Smiles” 8 November World Radiology Day

Special Interview with Prof. Dr. İlknur ÖZCAN, Dean of Biruni University Faculty of Dentistry, on 8 November World Radiology Day

Since 2012, 8 November, the day German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered the X-ray in 1895, has been celebrated as “World Radiology Day” and the importance of radiology in the continuity of health services has been highlighted.

Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology: Imaging technologies that support your dental health

Dental health is an integral part of our overall health and every smile reflects a person’s self-confidence. Imaging technologies in the field of modern medicine are of great importance to protect and treat the health of our teeth. “World Radiology Day”, which includes this important issue and is celebrated on 8 November every year, is celebrated by oral, dental and maxillofacial radiologists as well as the entire radiology community.

    What is Dental Radiology?

Dental Radiology is the name of a medical branch in which radiological imaging techniques used for diagnosis and treatment procedures related to dental health are applied. These techniques are used to obtain detailed images of teeth and surrounding tissues. Thanks to these images, dentists can diagnose dental problems, create treatment plans and help their patients more effectively.

Why is World Radiology Day important in dentistry?

World Radiology Day is celebrated on 8 November each year to highlight the importance of radiology and to raise public awareness in this field. On this day, dental X-rays, dental tomographs, panoramic images and many other imaging techniques are used to guide patients in the process of maintaining and improving their dental health.

    How does Dental Radiology help?

Diagnosis: Radiological images help dentists to detect problems such as dental caries, infections, gum disease, cysts and tumours. Early diagnosis means more effective treatment.

Treatment Planning: Images guide dentists in creating treatment plans. It provides important information about which treatment method will be applied and how it will be done.

Surgical Procedures: Radiological images are vital for tooth extractions, dental implant applications and other surgical interventions. Radiological imaging ensures that these procedures can be performed safely and effectively.

Follow-up and Monitoring: Radiological images are used to monitor the condition of patients after treatment. This is necessary to evaluate the success of the treatment.

World Radiology Day is an opportunity to celebrate this important medical branch that sheds light on your dental health and helps you maintain your smile. On this special day, we need to remind dentists and radiologists who shed light on the health of their patients every day. Remember, a healthy smile is the beginning of everything.

On this occasion, I would like to congratulate all our faculty members, physicians, technicians, technicians, technicians and other healthcare professionals who work in the field of radiology in medicine and dentistry, who perform their duties with devotion in the provision of health services, and wish them success in their work.
